The Gap has welcomed its own Sewing Lounge and Shop. Nestled on the foothills and surrounded by forest on the skirts of the inner suburbs of Brisbane is the new Needlefruit Sewing Lounge.

Kristina, a Brisbane local for more than 10 years, has dreamed of sharing her love of sewing.

She was a professional in the travel industry. Her need to express creativity, and to be a maker, began taking up most weekends and weeknights. Many weekends were spent walking the trails of Mount Glorious dreaming.

The first thought was to host a sewing workshop once a week in a local studio or hall.

After booking a studio to run sewing lessons the proprietors invited Kristina to stay. This encouraged Kristina to draw on her knowledge of independent pattern-makers and boutique fashion fabric designers. Finally, she could host classes and create a sewing and fabric shop.

Opening a shop was exciting and nerve racking. But faced with the chance to do what she loves Kristina wouldn’t have it any other way.

The store was in Paddington for the first two years. Since then Needlefruit has grown and has moved out to The Gap.
